Build Your Own Custom Linktree with AI (FREE!)

You don’t have to pay for Linktree or settle for limited customization anymore. In this post, I’ll show you how to build your own personal link-in-bio site from scratch using AI and deploy it for free using GitHub Pages. Whether you’re a developer or a creative just dabbling in tech, I promise you can do this!

Let’s get into it 👇🏽

🧠 Step 1: Let AI Help You Build Your Linktree

I used a tool called GitHub Copilot inside Visual Studio Code to help generate my Linktree site. If you’ve never used it before—don’t worry! I started with zero code in my project folder. Copilot created the entire thing based on my prompt.

Here’s the exact prompt I used:

“I want to build my own link tree. It will include a short bio photo, social links, general links, videos, and blog posts. Please use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.”

From just that prompt, Copilot generated:

  • index.html: The structure of your site
  • style.css: Clean, basic styling
  • script.js: Animations and interactions like link tracking and smooth fade-ins

Yup, that’s it! All you need to do is write what you want—and Copilot does the rest 💅🏽.

To be successful, you need to install the Visual Studio Code Editor and subscribe to GitHub Copilot for FREE. Learn how to set it up in this video - you may see a familiar face 😉.

💻 Step 2: Review and Customize the Site

Once Copilot is done generating your files, take a look at what it built:

  • Your index.html might say something like:

“My Linktree: [Your Name] – Connect with me”

  • It includes your bio, social icons, featured videos, and the latest blog posts
  • You can personalize all of this by editing the content in the HTML file

You’ll also see the styling in the CSS file and animations in the JS file. Things like:

  • Smooth fade-in effects
  • Click tracking
  • Section transitions

Now you’ve got a beautiful custom Linktree — fully yours for $0. If you don’t like the design, try chatting with Copilot again and ask for a different style. You can also take a screenshot of a design you like and ask Copilot to generate the code for it. 💡

🌍 Step 3: Deploy Your Linktree for Free Using GitHub Pages

Once you’re happy with how your site looks, it’s time to make it live!

Here’s how:

  1. Go to GitHub.com and create a GitHub account if you don’t already have one.
  2. Then create a new repository or project folder.
  3. Upload your files (HTML, CSS, JS) by dragging and dropping them or pushing from your terminal.
  4. Once uploaded, go to your repo’s Settings > Pages.
  5. Under Source, select the main branch, then click Save.
  6. GitHub will give you a public URL that you can share with the world!

🎉 Boom. You now have your own custom Linktree live on the internet—for free.

I know this sounds like a lot but I PROMISE, you can do it. Watch these videos to learn how to upload your files to GitHub and how to create your first repository:

🧡 Bonus: Add a Custom Domain

Want to go the extra mile? You can attach a custom domain to your site from your GitHub Pages settings. It’s a great way to make your link-in-bio site even more professional. You can purchase a domain from Namecheap, Squarespace domains or any other domain registrar.

👩🏽‍💻 You Built That! 💃🏼

If you followed this tutorial, you just created and deployed your own custom Linktree with the help of AI. How cool is that?! You didn’t need to pay a subscription or use a limited tool. It’s fully yours AND you can expand on it whenever you want!
